Here are some samples from our vacation on the Disney Magic. It was the perfect time to test my new Fuji x100 camera. I really love this camera. Lets just say it is superb, compact and has all the functions I need to make magic happen. And leave it to Fuji for colours! It does have some flaws...the f2 overexposes sometimes in bright sunlight. But there's a neutral density filter that can be added to cut down 2 stops. And some functions are buried faraway in the menu. But other than that, I really enjoyed this little (big) camera.

Life: happy and sad moments.

Two weeks ago, we spent 4 days at the hospital with little Miles...he just turned 14 months and got bronchitis. He cried a lot. Had trouble breathing. He was scared. It was tough to see him so little and so sick. It wasn't easy at all.

I took these pictures of him on the third day. Walking around the room in his little hospital gown and still plugged to his IV. He was getting better. These were shot in low-light with my iPhone so they are blurry and colours are a little wonky. But I don't care. Love these anyways, as they remind me that life is fragile.

I haven't blogged in a long time...my little munchkins and some vacation time have taken me a away from my computer and blog. But I'm back!

My blog is a mess right now. So sorry about that! I deleted an old album that was published in my Google + account and apparently, it was attached to my blog. Sigh! (read here a lot of bad words...) So all my pictures have disappeared. I uploaded some of them back but time is not on my side right now. So I am looking to create a complete new bog with Wordpress. I sure will keep you all posted for its reveal.

On another note, I discovered this add that was made for Adobe. Love it! It's a real life-sized set of Photoshop.

Voici quelques unes des photos prises lors du spectacle de fin d'année des groupes Pandas et Panthères de la Pré-Maternelle Les Oiselets le 22 juin dernier. Nous avons eu droit à de beaux moments. Ils étaient tous très fiers de nous présenter leur spectacle. Les professeurs ont fait un travail remarquable avec les enfants. Un gros merci et surtout bonnes vacances!

The family bed part II

This picture was taken on father's day morning...Both kids slept late that day. That was a nice gift for dad. Yay!

The 8 month old baby is still teething, his 8th tooth! So he can't settle and sleep alone. Until the tooth comes out, he's in our bed, rolling from one side to the other, making sure both parents are at his side. The 5 year old one sneaks in very quietly during the night. We don't even notice her coming in. We wake up and there she is!

And if you're wondering, yes I do fit in there somewhere, squeezed and uncomfortable. That's the family bed!

The family bed

Co-sleeping with a baby has left quite a debate in my head. Never would have thought to be divided with this question. My five years old daughter never had a problem to sleep in her crib when she was a baby.

With our 6 months old son, it has been an issue. At three months of age, he slept through the night in his crib, in his room. For one whole month, I got so much sleep!

It only lasted a month. At 4 months of age, he got a cold, then 5 teeth came out and got an ear infection. In two months, he was in pain. He couldn't sleep alone anymore. Waking up every half hour screaming to be held. Co-sleeping became the only solution for him and for me. Yes, it was nice not having to get out of bed at night to breast feed or rock him back to sleep.

But after a few weeks, lacking sleep, I furiously researched sleep on Google and on every baby website possible. Every minute I wasn't holding him was passed looking up this subject on the internet. I became obsessed. Every website basically said if you feed or rock your baby to sleep or co-sleep with your baby, it's a problem and your creating sleeping problems when your baby will grow older.

Sleeping problems? Really? I guess my husband has sleeping problems because he was breast fead and rocked to sleep and co-slept with his parents for a long time (lack of available rooms for 7 kids)...and so was his sisters and older brothers. Basically, almost the entire Asian, African and European continents are having sleep problems.

This is when I realized that co-sleeping seems to be an issue for North Americans. Our culture is telling us that a "good baby" should sleep through the night, fall asleep on his own, in is own bed. And if a baby should cry, we should use the "let the baby cry himself to sleep" method to avoid bad habits.

Bad habits? I wonder what lesson we are teaching the baby about trust. Making a baby feel confident that there will always be someone to count on when needed, to feel secure and loved. Aren't those the first things a baby needs to become independent?

So co-sleeping it is as long as our little brown eye bear needs it. And we kinda like to be snuggled and close to our babies at night. Our bed has become the family bed...and I wouldn't change it for anything. Well, maybe just one good night sleep :-)

Spring...sewing and gardening

Emeline & Annabelle Atelier Couture Café Browsing on the web to find beautiful fabrics, I just discovered this boutique in Montreal. This doesn't help my arising fever...the one that makes me want to create anything with my two hands. I have bought two Amy Butler patterns (weekend traveler bag and the lotus tunic and cami. Not to mention her book Little stitches for little ones) a long time ago. With the birth of my young master Jay-Jay (Miles) and taking care of my sweet soon to be 5 years old Chloé...time for myself has been quite thin.

But with spring always comes more light...days are kind of expending. Makes me feel like I have more time. Not entirely true...but I like to think it is. Now, just need the fabrics to make my patterns come alive. Can't wait to visit this boutique and start sewing.

I'm running head first in gardening too. My husband likes to tease me with my garden...he always likes to call it my community kitchen garden. I do agree. It is a big one. But I can't help it, I like it. Well, not as much when it's time to clean it up when comes fall... But it's fun when it's time to harvest our tomatoes, lettuces, carrots, strawberries, raspberries, basil, cilantro, mint...always taste so good!

Chloé likes to garden with me, which I love. We are going to seed our tomatoes this weekend. Since we can't put them into the ground until June...we have to start them early indoor so we can have tomatoes during summer. We are going to get our hands dirty!

I have been thinking a lot about life. How fragile it can be. My husband and I have lost a great deal of people from cancer over the years and particularly in the last 2 years. And we both agree that every day life is what makes people who they are. The moments you have spent with them. From the simplest Sunday dinners to those walks to the grocery store. These are the moments we always remember the most.

And these are the moments we should capture. The everyday, simple life with our loved ones.

New website running live!

Oh I am so happy to announce that my new website is live on the web with my new branding...all thanks to Charles! I'm very happy with the design and choices we made. I like the fact that the pictures are the heart of the website. Everything else is there, but secondary.

Got my new business cards delivered this week. I was very excited to see them and I was not disappointed. Thank you That Sky Blue for these amazing, gorgeous letter pressed cards! My logo is pressed all over the card. You have to play with the light to see all the details...which is what I do as a photographer. I think they are awesome! Even my blog as the logo all over now. Love the way it looks!

Delicious brownies with espresso coffee

This dessert is sooooo delicious! Just in time for Valentine's day. An easy recipe...but what an amazing taste! My husband loves it. If you are a chocolate and coffee lover, this one is for you.

It's from Ricardo. My sweet side thinks it needs a little more sugar, that's why I substitute the semi-sweet chocolate to milk chocolate. But it's up to your taste. Try it with both. Why not!

Happy Valentine's day!

3/4 cup all purpose flour, sifted
1/4 cup cocoa, sifted
1/4 teaspoon salt
6 oz semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
3/4 cup unsalted butter, cut in cubes
1 cup of sugar
3 eggs
6 small scoops vanilla ice cream
3/4 cup hot espresso coffee

With the rack in the middle position, preheat the oven to 170 °C (325 °F). Butter a 8-inch (20-cm) square cake pan and line with parchment paper, letting paper hang over 2 opposite sides. Butter two other sides.

In a bowl, combine the flour, cocoa and salt. Set aside.

In a double-biler, melt chocolate and butter. Remove bowl from double-boiler. Whisk in the sugar. Add the eggs, one at a time, and beat for 2 minutes. With a wooden spoon, fold in the dry ingredients. Pour the batter in the cake pan and bake for 25-30 minutes or until the centre is firm but still moist.

Let cool in the pan for approximately 4 hours. Unmould and cut into squares.

Place one brownie piece in a glass cup. Garnish with a small scoop of ice cream and pour steaming espresso coffee on top.

And don't forget the children!!! For them, place one warm brownie piece in a plate and garnish with a scoop of ice cream. They will devour it!

I just discovered these dringdring bicycle bells! Designed and hand-painted in Montreal, these metal bicycle bells are made with eco-friendly paints that contain no solvents or toxic fumes.

The base coat of the bells is painted by a local organization that offers employment opportunities for young people of all backgrounds. Even better...can't wait to get one, or two!

Momofuku's strawberry Shortcakes

I think I just discovered the best shortcake ever!

I grew up eating the store bought neon yellow sponge cakes with sliced strawberries drowned into a chemical red berry jelly, topped with whipped cream. To me that dessert was heavenly... But last night, my niece cooked this version of the shortcake from Momofuku's cookbook and it was such a revelation!

The shortcakes are crackly on the outside and soft and moist, almost uncooked, on the inside. They may look like scones but they are nothing like. They are the perfect balance between sweet and salty. I don't think I have ever tasted a more perfect dessert.

That cookbook will sure be on my Christmas list!

Meet Miles

Can you believe our little man arrived just a few hours after my last post? I just finished writing about maternity leave and 3 hours later, my water broke. He was born October 6 at 3:49am. He didn't give me time to complete my last two weddings (prints). No worries to both couples, I'll get them delivered as promised.

I took these pictures the morning I left the hospital to bring him home. The soft morning light was perfect.

It took us 2 weeks to figure out a name. Yes, family and friends will probably read this post and figure out we've changed it once again. Not easy to find a name when his big sister keeps disliking any names we come up with. This one is official and public knowledge now... Sorry Chloé, but we sure can't name him Lea!

Maternity Leave - Shooting Schedule

As of now, our little man is scheduled to arrive any day now. Because of this amazing upcoming event, I have shot my last wedding last Saturday.

I will not be taking any jobs until December 2010.

I will be back to shooting as normal in January.

I have already started booking work for 2011, so let me know if you are interested in reserving a date.

In the mean time, here are some pictures from Manon & Michel's wedding shot last Saturday. Hope these two are having an amazing honeymoon in Spain...

My niece and her future husband went to Le Grand Salon Marions-Nous last weekend and they really liked a team of videographer : Eye Heart Films http://eyeheartfilms.ca/ They really really liked them.

I just looked at their work and I really like them too. Wish they had been around for my wedding five years ago. I really like the motion a film can bring to a wedding day. Don't get me wrong I LOVE photography and the stillness of it, but I'm a tv/movie junky...I just can't help it.

Water levels of our river are so low this summer...but it gives little Chloé the opportunity to catch some shells and see the ducks so close to her, all waiting to be fed. She had a blast playing with the water and dirt.

She was a real fighter. A cancer fighter, right until the end, never letting go of life. She passed away last Friday. It was an emotional moment when I took your family pictures...a week before the unthinkable. A very intimate moment with your loved ones.

I can't even begin to imagine what it would feel to leave behind my daughter and upcoming son, not being able to see them grow, laugh, cry, live... To leave behind my husband, life, love...

Compote de pommes à la vanille

J'ai fait une compote de pommes à la vanille. Simplement délicieux.
Une simple gousse de vanille ajoutée une fois les pommes cuites et réduites en compote ajoute une saveur délicate et différente à celle de la cannelle, plus traditionnelle.

Pour cette compote, j'ai utilisé des pommes McIntosh. La prochaine fois, j'essaierai les pommes Cortland. La couleur de leur chaire est plus blanche.

La Cabane

This weekend, I went to La Cabane http://www.lacabane.ca/ in Old Montreal with family. La Cabane has a menu designed by chef Danny St-Pierre and cooked by caterer Agnus Dei. Everything was delicious, well balanced both in taste and quantity. The only little critique I can find is that the maple barbe à papa tasted a little burnt. I guess they overheated the maple sugar.

It's not the kind of menu you usually find at a sugar shack. And it's a good thing. Finally, something that marries tradition with modernity.

If you want to try, which I strongly recommend, there is still a few dates available until April 25th.

La Croissanterie Figaro is one of my favorite café in Montreal. I always feel in Paris when I'm there. It has a little je ne sais quoi... I had le special bonjour with, as always, an allongé. And I took home 3 pieces of the best cheesecake.

Ah...des biscuits sablé au beurre, juste à temps pour la St-Valentin.

Biscuits Sablés

Temps de préparation : 14 minutes

Temps de réfrigération : 1 heure

Temps de cuisson : 15 minutes environ par fournée

Rendement : 18 sablés environ

375 ml (1 1/2 tasse) de farine tout usage
7.5 ml (1 1/2 c. à thé) de poudre à pâte
1 ml (1/4 c. à thé) de sel
1 oeuf
1 jaune d'oeuf
180 ml (3/4 tasse) de sucre
5 ml (1 c. à thé) d'extrait de vanille
125 ml (1/2 tasse) de beurre non salé, ramolli

Sucre vanillé pour saupoudrer (facultatif)

Dans un bol, mélanger la farine, la poudre à pâte et le sel. Réserver.

Dans un autre bol, fouetter les oeufs, le beurre, le sucre et la vanille jusqu'à ce que le mélange soit crémeux. Incorporer les ingrédients secs jusqu'à ce que la pâte soit homogène. Façonner un disque avec les mains et envelopper d'une pellicule plastique. Réfrigérer une heure.

Placer la grille au centre du four. Préchauffer le four à 170⁰C (325⁰F).

Chemiser deux plaques à biscuits de papier parchemin.

Sur un plan de travail fariné, abaisser la pâte à environ 1/2 cm (1/4 po) d'épaisseur.

À l'aide d'emporte-pièces, découper les biscuits en réutilisant les retailles. Réfrigérer les retailles au besoin, si la pâte devient trop molle. Saupoudrer les biscuits du sucre vanillé. Cuire au four environ 14 minutes ou jusqu'à ce qu'ils soient dorés.

Laisser refroidir.

I have found my old record of The Cure Disintegration... Wow, brings back memories from high school. Lots of them.

Remember the tape cassettes? Oh, how I would stay tuned on a radio station just to record a song...hours of waiting. And of course, when the song was finally playing, the radio guy started talking over the song. What an agony it was just to get a song. Now, it's almost instant with the avenue of internet.

From the vinyl records, the 8 track cassettes, the TDK cassettes and now iTunes. Wow...it really has changed.

I went with two of my friends to the Jean-Talon market. We did, as always, have a coffee first and chatted for a while. We then wonder around the market, shooting what we thought was interesting. I'm pretty sure we all came up with totally different shots even if we shot, some of the time, the same thing.

The sky was covered with clouds...so the light was very soft, almost no shadows. And I got over my shyness and asked, not once but twice, if I could take a portrait of 2 complete strangers. Yeah!

I'm getting my gear ready for the first of two weddings. My nephew is getting married this Saturday in the Thai buddhist traditions. Family is flying in from L.A. and good asian food is getting prepared. Next Saturday will be the Catholic wedding. I'll take pictures in a pretty church and after we'll head to a vineyard. Can't wait to post the pictures.

My friend Roberta and I had to decide for our next food photography friendly challenge coming this month. Apples was the choice we made since it's in the season. We will have the freedom to treat it as an ingredient, a dessert and or jam. Keep posted to see what we come up with!

The Digital Media Student Association in collaboration with Concordia University presented the 2008 edition of EXPOSED, the annual student exhibition of the Computation Arts program on May 15 2008.

By grouping a mix of works under the theme of Mimic, the goal was to highlight the vital role that digital technology plays in the contemporary society, and the power that it possesses as a medium of creative expression.

I am proud to have been part of this event by taking pictures for the students.

Lost in translation

Why "Lost in translation" ? Because I just love the movie and because I'm half Italian, half French Canadian and my husband is Laotian. Which means our daughter is quarter Italian, quarter French Canadian and half Laotian. That makes something to be lost in translation!
